lookin into gettin me a shallow/compact sub system in my car. was looking into the jl 13" sub or 2 rf 10/12" subs. the dual rf subs combo costs same as the single jl, not sure on performance though. i get biased info since jl is a "big name" brand

have a small car atm, i currently am currently using my old 13"(jl w1), im not going that jl sub/amp set up anymore, too expensive for the performance. im thinkin the rf 10/12 or alpine shallow sub, cept the alpine sub is like 300$ too, lol. it looks sweet too, but i may just go with the rf since i kinda whipped up a quick box design that should easily fit(based on the dimensions of th ecurrent box)

Do you have speaker wires/speaker cords? an older 13" probably requires a pretty large wire etc.

Honestly if you have a small car youd be better off with some realy high end 8' -10 inch subs than larger ones

two realy good jl 8 inch subs with a great amp like a rockfordfosgate (sp) or what ever is comprable these days would give you HUGE performance in a small space

rember bigger isnt always better you want guality high end components

additionaly it never hurts to wire in a power cut out switch to teh amp under the dash so when your going through a neighborhood at night or near cops you can hit the switch and have more standard sound and no legal issues lol

I suffer from a condition called dislexix disgraphia so please parden my spelling and typographical errors

i pretty much said i wanted a shallow/compact system.... dont need much wiring due to the battery being in the trunk :D, not sure if i mentioned it, but the jl is mostly brand name being sold. i wasnt sure on the shallow subs performance, but the info i've come across states that the shallow compares to the w3s which is better than my current w1 i have in there. based on that, the jl shallow is louder than my current set up. however, 2 subs USUALLY is louder than a single sub depending on the quality and rf isnt bad quality.

if any1 has heard any other shallow sub set ups, please let me know what they were and if they performed pretty well

biggest thing to keep in mind if you want great performance you want a larger magnet , if its got a realy undersized magnet it just wont hit as hard as one that has a larger magnet

but beware a lof of places will sell you a jl audo and not tell you its their lowest tier of speaker

im not buying jl, my choice right now is rf, i was wondering if any1 knew of any other shallow subs where performance/price is more accurate and how they compare to any other things they;ve heard. also, i've been a victim of this, below is my first sub. not gonna lie to you, it sounded really nice in the tahoe(it was basically a box inside another box), but didn't give me the lows i wanted(at the time)

r is good sh#t but anytime your dealing with a "shallow" sub your never going to get true lows since they have limited magnets . better to get a standard pair of quality smaller subs in a shallow box with good air flow

Kickers are fairly decent , used to have two 10 inch kickers with a nice pioneer amp that sounded great but when i replaced them with jl's the difference was huge
