1.0 Basic Heroes

When choosing your hero there are many different things that you will have to consider. Don't ever use only one build for all types of heroes or you will find yourself only winning if the hero you have is made for those skills. If you want to make a hk (Hero Killer) then be sure that you have a good Intelligence hero for it, or else keep in mind you will need to buy mana items later on, a good stun and high damage spell are needed for a good hk. If you want to make a Strength Hero (Tank) then you should get moves that would help you live long and get unit kills. The Intelligence Heroes (Summoners, Stunners, Sleepers) are not at all good for use with strength hero spells, such as cleave or evasion. Many people have also started to call the speed heroes (Mauler) not always correctly used since the term means that it is a wielder of a hammer, anyways they are usually heroes with high speed and used to take out small amounts of units and first and then eventually heroes and bases. I think the term (Ranger) would work better if you have ranged hero who is using Multiple Arrows instead of Cleaving Attack or Incinerate since only Multiple Arrows works for the ranged heroes. If you are planning on using the creeps to go along with your hero killing then your (Goleming).

1.2 - Simple Starting Techniques

You have a few options most all of the good ones require your entire team pooling together to one person to buy the stuff.

Option 1 Scrolls
if this is the option you choose to use then you buy a beast scroll and a speed scroll, then when then mass is just starting to move the unites use the speed scroll. Now your going to wait till almost all of the units have started fighting before using the beast scroll or else the time moving that could have been used attacking would be wasted. After you have used that first beast be watching your money and sending out all your footmen and telling your mates to do the same if they aren't, when you get 450 get the scourge bone chimes at the horizontally placed middle shops, then get the undead frenzy soul at the same shop for 500 and then the warsong battle drums for 500 also, This is a very common way of getting ahead at the start.

Option 2 Jammy
This option is really simple you wait unit the jammyis ready buy it and get rid of everyone elses scrolls they have used giving you the advantage once again if you have scrolls. You But the Jamie at the shop in the corner by your teams shops it's in the creep shop for 550.

Option 3 HK Spree
This is a harder option but the goal is to wipe out a whole teams heroes so they wont be leveling up during mass leveling them extremely weak to attack after mass for good money. You need to have either 2 or 3 HK heroes on your team for this one to work.

Option 4 Healing Wards
The healing wards are one of the best options they will heal all of your units, the item is located at the center of the map shop, cost is 350, stock is only set to one though so you need to be the first to the center in order to buy this leaving you in a dangerous area where you could easily get surrounded by anyone with footmen out. The healing Wards work very good with thing like the Lava Spawns spell because if they live long enough to hurt units a set amount then they turn into 2 healthy spawns. In order to buy this item pooling is required.

Option 5 Rat
Rats are very commonly used and when used well can give you total control over the mass, when using the rats silence ability you want to aim for the heroes of your opponents or if any of them gets a jammy you want to aim for it even more, try to hit both of the teams heroes closest to your team, you will want to control group the rat and your hero so that you can use both quickly and efficiently during the mass.

---

1.3 - Come Backs

It's very hard to get a good come back because you usually don't have money and you need it for a good comeback, even an Arcane Tower could be the difference between victory and defeat. If your doing really good against one team but you know the other team is doing even better against the other team then you can try to save for a granite golem 3500 at the alter of legends corner base shop. One good strategy is to get a worker and have him hold a rune at all times just in case you need to use it when your hero is dead, keep the worker up by your base shops so that only ranged units can attack it.

The Arcane Tower of Terror (ToT) is one of the best ways to make a good comeback, however it's quite costly at 8,000 gold but it's worth the cost, this tower is similar to a Arcane tower but it's a lot stronger and it also has the firebolt ability that the ice towers have, and it can reveal areas around the map much faster then the basic Arcane towers, all that said none of those are the reason why people buy it, the reason people get this tower is because it can protect against some of the strongest of attacks even armies of darks can sometimes fall to this tower, if you get this tower you should be planning on tiering up your base next, the ToT can also dispel magic over and over so it's a perfect counter to an attack using the Ward of Gods (WoG) it's also great for taking out summons and units under magical buffs.

The Rune of Shielding at the alter of legends shop is the most common way of saving yourself for a comeback, if you are playing against pretty good teams then it's a good idea to have a spare worker holding this item back in your teams item shops area, if they keep transmuting or charming your workers then you may want to but the Peasant Armor item available at the owl shop that floats around the mass areas randomly, if you have that item it makes your worker unable to be cast spells on and it provides a lot of bonus health.

Ice Towers upgrading your towers to ice towers is a great way of making heroes not want to mess around in your base as much, being one of the cheapest options that also makes you money this is one of the best options for making a comeback. Make sure to control group your towers so you can quickly use them all if you are sharing control with all your team mates and they are also sharing control with you then you can select all towers at a time by holding the Ctrl key when clicking them, to just select all of your own just double click it, if your have full control over an allied units you can also just double click it. whenever a hero comes into your base or near it from an opposing team quickly hit the number u set for your control group and then cast the fire bolt spell on it then either send in your troops and surround the hero or use your heroes spells to help finish off the hero.

---

1.4 - Finishers

Getting Darks First and Upgrading them in attack, defense, Life, and providing them with auras or beast scrolls is a great way to finish the game, just make sure you save up enough to kill off your opponents, go for towers first because they attack also by killing them you get bonus gold in case you have to attack again you can be stronger.

AOG (Alter Of The Gods) This is a very expensive unit at the alter of legends shop, it costs 15099, you will need to use rats or a tower of terror to reveal the map first all of the map! when u have it all revealed use the spell it will kill all living units and heroes, also always try to keep the divine shield up on it, and you can use priests to make it invisible or put it inside a Goblin Zeppelin. This is sometimes a better idea then darks if your opponent has darks already because you could make enough from using to get your darks afterwords anyways and it's only a few thousand more so why not kill everything in the process.

Night Terror Golem (NTG NT Terror) This is a very expensive unit at the alter of legends shop it's cost is pretty much the same as the AOG however it's used for much different circumstances, for instance if you know every ones got tier 2 or higher and no teams have died yet then this would not be the right choice, this is used when you only have a few teams left to take out and those leftover teams don't have a Tower Of Terror (ToT) the reason not to get this if they have a ToT is simple it can make your golem die very easily when there is units heroes and a ToT all attacking it. So now you understand when not to use it but if everything looks fine then you should use this and it is better at taking down bases when your opponents have runes, since penguins don't last forever NT is sometimes a better choice over penguins.

Penguins of Chaos (Pengs, Penguins) these are one of the most common ways of taking out a base, they are even strong enough to take out a ToT, however after taking out a ToT if they are successful they wont have time to take out anything else so it's usually best to aim for the main bases with these since you have such a limited amount of time with them, they are sometimes exactly what you need however they are counter-able using runes and by the spell explosion and from bills ultimate spell, and from starfall by the AOG.

Ward of The Gods (WoG, WotG) This is a very expensive item at the alter of legends shop it contains 2 charges, using this ward will pretty much keep your units around 100% life so they wont die unless a whole pack of darks is attacking them or a ToT or some spell that does a very high amount of damage, it's a very good choice as long as your opponents don't have a ToT since the ToT can cast dispel magic over and over it can easily take out the WoG with very little effort, you may also want to check how many runes they have ready if your planning on going for a Base Kill (BK), it's best to use wards with an army to go with them while attacking, you probably would want to be at least tier 4 before attacking. This ward can also be used to defend your teams forces when under heavy attack, remember to watch out for heroes who have Mind Rape (MR) because it can be used and then they can use your wards as there own. Ways to counter this would be from a ToT or some of the creeps from the creep shop including jammy, wizard, newt, shaman from casting spells like dispel magic, purge. There is also a dispel magic item for sell for 400 at the central shop, it contains 2 charges, so it wouldn't be enough to take out the ward alone.

---

1.5 - Goleming Techniques

Goleming is the use of many creeps to use to help out with a hk hero, most people will buy 3-6 golems, 2-4 newts and some people even get a few shamans then use the golems to stun the heroes and the newts to net them over and over then they have there hero finish them off with moves like frost bolt, coil, shockwave, carrrion swarm etc. getting bears with a build like this is a pretty good ideas because they have a bash ability later on that can help hold attacked heroes in place for you to kill them, you will want to put the different types of units into unit groups using control+ a number and then that number to reuse that group again, if you want to help support your creeps try adding spells like healing wave or unholy aura or dev aura to your builds. To counter golems from attacking your base build Arcane Towers or if you have enough a ToT, Maulers/Rangers with Divine Shield when they are up enough levels can also easily kill of the creeps, another option is to buy a lizard at the creep shop and have it cast consume on the creep then run it back to your base, sometimes its a good idea to get a priest and have it cast invisibility on the lizard and then send it out to consume the creep just remember that once cast the the invisibility will ware off so hurry back to your base. Another way of countering the creeps is by surrounding a single creep with somewhat strong units and then attacking it, also use of the newt creep can help at holding a single creep in your base if they are attacking your base with the creeps.

1.6 - Items - by DragonWarrior

Recipes usually work best with heroes.

Some of the most commonly used power items are-
Lightspeed Shoes (Usually used with maulers)-Found in the Recipe shop
Heart of the Holy Maiden (This severely upgrades your hero all around)-Found in the Recipe Shop
Excalibur (Costs a lot, but very useful (Mini version of the Ring of Jeebus))-Found in the Recipe Shop
Slippers of Agillity +28 (Upgrades a hero's agility by 28, very useful)-Found in the Wind Shop
Mantle of Intelligence +28 (Upgrades a hero's intelligence by 28, works best with Jaina hero)-Found in the Wind Shop
Night Terror Armor (Very powerful. Upgrades your defense. Having 2 or more of these makes your hero near unstoppable. Best with tank heroes)-Found in Recipe Shop
(Tell me some more to add in this slot because I keep forgetting their names)

Some of the most commonly used basic items are-
Maul of Corruption (Used in the Lightspeed recipe, but works extremely well with AoEs. An AoE hero can become a Hero Killer too if you hit a hero first with the Maul of Corruption)- Found in the _____ Shop <---Shop?
Sobi Mask (Used in the Scepter of the Archmage recipe, gives your hero 50% mana regeneration)-Found in the North and South shops

I may continue to update this version a few times, so check back.

Nice guide, just one thing I think would really help pubs. Most pubs I see lose to strategies like black arrow, or don't really know how to survive/avoid hkers. Maybe a section for countering these builds would help them.

Lol when I was a pub, I looked up the builds that Vex wrote in that and used 'em. They were actually pretty helpful to me.

Vex, add a whole new section on different hero "types". Like hero killer, etc. And make sure to put Wind Walk Bolt Coil in it wink

Vex, you ready to make a VB software with me to make a list of these builds..
it will be like random, cuz sometimes people get bored and get confused which build to use so that that software will have a option to randomize then it will move and list will move then it will stop on a random build so people will use that one :P

Alex[STAR] is correct making a program would just be a waste when it could be made with triggers way faster.
